PDF bank statement to Excel converter

Pull the transactions out of a PDF bank statement and download them as Excel, CSV, QuickBooks or Xero files. The PDF is read in your browser — it is never uploaded.

Choose your PDF statement

The PDF is read in your browser. It is never uploaded, and nothing is stored.

How it works: a PDF statement is read in your browser, the transactions appear in an editable preview where you can fix any line, and you download them as Excel, CSV, QuickBooks or Xero files.
How it works: you can correct anything in the preview before downloading.

How it reads your statement

A digital PDF statement — the kind you download from online banking — contains real text laid out in columns. The converter reads that text with a PDF engine that runs inside your browser, then rebuilds the table:

  1. It finds lines that start with a date, such as 01/15, 15 Jan, Jan 15, 2026 or 2026-01-15.
  2. It finds the column headings — Withdrawals and Deposits, Money out and Money in, Debits and Credits, Amount, Balance — and uses their positions to decide which column each number belongs to.
  3. When a statement has a running balance, it checks each amount against the change in balance. That confirms whether the amount was money in or money out, and catches misreads.
  4. Descriptions that wrap onto a second line are joined back together, and page headers, footers and totals are skipped.
  5. Dates without a year take the year from the statement period, including statements that run from December into January.

You then see every transaction in an editable table. Rows the converter had to guess are shaded so you can check them. Fix a date or amount, delete a stray row, or add one that was missed — then download.

Check your totals before you import

The summary above the table shows money in, money out and the net change. Compare them with the totals printed on your statement. If they match, your file is complete. If they don't, look for a missing row near a page break or a row shaded amber.

What works best

  • Works well: PDF statements downloaded from online banking for checking, current, savings and credit card accounts, from US, UK, Canadian and Australian banks.
  • Works with care: statements with unusual layouts, such as transactions grouped by card or by category. Review the table carefully.
  • Doesn't work yet: scanned paper statements and photos. These are images with no text layer and need OCR. If you can, download the statement again from online banking, or export the transactions as CSV and use the CSV converter.

Going to QuickBooks or Xero? You don't need to make an Excel file first. In step 3 choose QuickBooks CSV, QBO, Xero CSV or OFX and download a file that's ready to import.

Why not just copy and paste?

Copying a table out of a PDF usually gives you one long column of text, with dates, descriptions and amounts jumbled together. Fixing that by hand for a few hundred transactions takes an hour and invites typing mistakes. Online converters that upload your statement are quicker, but they put your full account history on someone else's server. This tool gives you the speed without the upload.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF bank statement converter free?

Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up and no page limit beyond 300 pages per file.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened by a PDF reader that runs inside your browser. Your statement never leaves your device.

Does it work with scanned statements?

Not yet. Scanned statements are images, and reading them needs optical character recognition (OCR). Download the statement from online banking as a PDF instead — those contain real text and convert well.

How accurate is the conversion?

For digital PDFs with a clear table it is usually exact. Where your statement shows a running balance, the tool uses it to check each amount and work out whether it was money in or money out. Any row it had to guess is highlighted so you can check it. You can edit, add or delete rows before downloading.

Can it open password-protected PDFs?

Yes. If the PDF has a password, the tool asks for it. The password is used only in your browser to open the file.

Can I send the result straight to QuickBooks or Xero?

Yes. In step 3, choose QuickBooks CSV, QBO, Xero CSV or OFX instead of Excel.

Why are some dates in the wrong year?

Many statements show dates without a year (for example 05 Jan). The tool takes the year from the statement period. If a statement spans December and January, it uses the right year for each side. If the year is still wrong, edit the date in the table.
