How to download transactions from Chase
Chase lets you download account activity from the desktop version of its website. Sign in, open the checking, savings or credit card account, and look for the download icon or a Download account activity link above the list of transactions. Choose the account, a file type and the date range you need, then download.
Chase usually offers a spreadsheet (CSV) option alongside Quicken and QuickBooks formats. If a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) download is offered for your account, you can upload it to QuickBooks directly. The CSV is the better choice when you want to see and check the data first, when you need a date range the QBO download doesn't cover, or when you also want the transactions in Excel.
Menus change. Chase updates its online banking from time to time, so the exact button names may differ from what's described here. If you can't find the option, search Chase's help pages for “download transactions”.
What a Chase CSV looks like
A Chase checking or savings export has seven columns. Here is what the first lines typically look like:
| Details | Posting Date | Description | Amount | Type | Balance | Check or Slip # |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DEBIT | 01/05/2026 | SHELL OIL 5744 | -48.20 | DEBIT_CARD | 2451.80 | |
| CREDIT | 01/06/2026 | ACME CORP PAYROLL | 1850.00 | ACH_CREDIT | 4301.80 | |
| CHECK | 01/08/2026 | CHECK 1042 | -300.00 | CHECK_PAID | 4001.80 | 1042 |
A few things are worth knowing. Amount is already signed — money out is negative — which is exactly what QuickBooks wants in a 3-column file. Details and Type are Chase's own labels (such as DEBIT_CARD or ACH_CREDIT) and QuickBooks doesn't need them. Each line usually ends with a trailing comma, so spreadsheets show an extra empty column at the end.
Chase credit card exports
Card downloads use a different layout: Transaction Date, Post Date, Description, Category, Type, Amount, Memo. Purchases are negative and payments to the card are positive. When you upload the converted file, choose your credit card account in QuickBooks so charges and payments land the right way round. The file has two dates; check the preview to confirm which one is used, and switch it under Change which column is which if you prefer the posting date.
Common problems with Chase files in QuickBooks
- “The file isn't in the right format.” QuickBooks Online only accepts 3 or 4 columns. The raw Chase file has seven, so it's rejected or the mapping screen gets confusing. The converter keeps just Date, Description and Amount.
- Dates land in the wrong month. Chase writes dates month-first (01/05/2026 is 5 January). If your computer uses UK or Australian settings and you open the file in Excel, Excel may silently read it as 1 May. Don't open and re-save the file in Excel before converting: the converter recognises the Chase layout and reads it month-first whatever your computer's settings.
- Pending transactions are missing. Downloads normally contain posted transactions only. Anything still pending will appear in a later download.
- Duplicates after importing. Start each download the day after the last transaction already in QuickBooks. Overlapping date ranges are the most common cause of duplicates.
Import the converted file into QuickBooks Online
- In QuickBooks Online, go to Transactions → Bank transactions and choose Upload transactions (it may sit under the arrow next to Link account).
- Select the file you downloaded from the converter, then pick the QuickBooks account it belongs to. Use the credit card account for a card export — not a bank account.
- For a CSV, map Date, Description and Amount, and choose the date format shown in step 3 of the converter. A QBO file skips this screen.
- Review the transactions in the For review tab, then compare the QuickBooks balance with your statement for the same date.

Frequently asked questions
Can I download a QBO file from Chase directly?
Chase offers QuickBooks Web Connect downloads for many accounts. If it's available for yours, you can upload it to QuickBooks without converting. If it isn't, or you need a different date range, download the CSV and convert it here.
Why does my Chase CSV have an empty column at the end?
Chase ends each line with a trailing comma, so spreadsheets show one extra, empty column. It does no harm, and the converter ignores it.
Does it work with Chase credit card downloads?
Yes. The card layout (Transaction Date, Post Date, Description, Category, Type, Amount, Memo) is recognised too. Import the converted file into your credit card account in QuickBooks.
My computer uses UK date settings. Will Chase dates be read correctly?
Yes. When the converter recognises a Chase file it reads dates month-first, so 01/05/2026 stays 5 January. The status message will say “Recognised the Chase export format”.
Is my Chase data uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read and converted inside your browser and the result is saved to your device. Nothing is sent to our server.
